The resorts offering on-site Covid testing for guests: Travel Weekly

Properties across the Caribbean and Mexico are racing to launch on-site Covid-19 testing, as well as no-cost or discounted quarantine programs, after the CDC unveiled a new mandate requiring all inbound U.S. flyers to show proof of a negative Covid-19 test prior to departure, effective Jan. 26.

Marriott International

All Marriott International properties under all Marriott brands in the Caribbean and Latin America (270 properties currently open) have introduced measures to provide safe and convenient testing options for travelers in line with the new CDC requirement, effective Jan. 26, for a negative Covid-19 test taken within three days of entering the U.S. The new regulation does not apply to travelers returning from Puerto Rico or the U.S. Virgin Islands. The testing sites and costs differ by location, with some properties offering transportation to an off-site testing facility and others arranging on-site appointments for guests.

Melia Hotels International
 
Select Melia Hotels International properties throughout Mexico and the Dominican Republic are launching free, on-site antigen tests. Participating properties include the Paradisus Playa Del Carmen, Paradisus Cancun, Paradisus Los Cabos, ME Cabo, Melia Cozumel and Melia Puerto Vallarta in Mexico and the Grand Reserve at Paradisus Palma Real, Paradisus Palma Real, Melia Caribe Beach Resort and Melia Punta Cana Beach Resort in the Dominican Republic.

Additionally, Melia Hotels International is providing free travel insurance with all reservations. The Travel Safe with Melia insurance policy includes medical coverage as well as complimentary extension of a guest’s hotel stay for up to 15 days, among other benefits.

Sandals and AMResorts

Among the first hospitality heavyweights to unveil new on-property testing and/or quarantine-stay coverage policies in the wake of the CDC announcement were Sandals Resorts International and AMResorts. The former said it will offer free testing portfoliowide through March 31, while the latter is rolling out on-property Covid-19 antigen testing across the majority of its properties.

Additionally, AMResorts is providing free, extended quarantine-stay coverage for all guests traveling to the U.S. through March 31.

Hyatt Hotels Corp.

The company’s resorts in the Caribbean and Latin America are offering complimentary on-site Covid-19 testing through May 31 for guests traveling to or returning to the U.S. The free tests are available for up to two registered guests per room at 19 participating resorts in the Caribbean, Costa Rica, Mexico and South America. 

If a guest tests positive and must delay travel to the U.S., Hyatt will extend the guest’s stay at participating properties for up to 14 additional nights at a rate of up to half off the standard price (excluding Hyatt Ziva and Hyatt Zilara properties) and up to 30% off food and beverage (excluding alcohol) at its “travel delay rate.” 

Playa Hotels & Resorts

Playa Hotels & Resorts has followed suit, unveiling complimentary Covid-19 antigen testing at all of its 17 resorts across the Caribbean and Mexico through April 30. 

Under Playa’s program, the free testing will be available to guests who stay at least three nights at its Mexico or Dominican Republic resorts and at least five nights at its Jamaica properties. Discounted PCR testing will also be available upon request.

If a guest does not receive test results in time for departure, Playa properties will provide complimentary room accommodation until test results are delivered and a departure can be rescheduled. 

Should a guest test positive for Covid-19, Playa will offer as much as a 50% discount on accommodations for a quarantine of up to 14 days.

Playa’s portfolio includes resorts flagged under the Hyatt Ziva, Hyatt Zilara, Panama Jack, Hilton, Jewel Resorts, Jewel Grande and Sanctuary brands.

Karisma Hotels & Resorts

Karisma Hotels & Resorts has similarly updated its Covid-19 protocols, rolling out free, on-site antigen testing at its Riviera Maya properties in Mexico as well as at its Dominican Republic and Jamaica resorts. 

If a guest’s predeparture test results is positive, Karisma will cover his or her quarantine accommodations for up to 14 nights.

Karisma operates properties throughout the Riviera Maya, the Dominican Republic and Jamaica under the brand El Dorado Spa Resorts by Karisma, Margaritaville Island Reserve by Karisma, Nickelodeon Hotels & Resorts, Azul Beach Resorts by Karisma, Generations Resorts by Karisma, Hidden Beach Resort by Karisma and Sensatori Resorts.

La Coleccion Resorts

Likewise, Posadas’ La Coleccion Resorts portfolio is rolling out free antigen testing at all of its beach properties across Mexico and the Dominican Republic. The on-site antigen tests can be scheduled through each property’s concierge 36 hours prior to departure. 

La Coleccion will also offer guests the ability to schedule a PCR test 72 hours prior to departure for an additional cost, subject to availability. Those PCR tests, however, may also be administered off-site, depending on location.

In the event of a positive test between the time of check-in and checkout, La Coleccion will offer guests a quarantine stay at a discounted nightly rate of $10 per night per person. La Coleccion properties will also cover telehealth assistance for up to 72 hours, hotel expenses during recovery and other services and amenities at an extra cost of $4 per night.

La Collecion’s stable includes properties branded under the Live Aqua Resorts, Grand Fiesta Americana Hotels & Resorts, Fiesta Americana Hotels & Resorts and the Explorean Discovery Resorts flags.

Bahia Principe Hotels & Resorts

Bahia Principe Hotels & Resorts will offer guests the viral antigen test free of charge from Jan. 23 to March 31 or until regulations regarding the CDC reentry requirement change. The testing will be carried out by medical professionals in partnership with local laboratories in designated areas of the brand’s resorts in the Dominican Republic, Jamaica and Mexico. Guests should contact the front desk at each resort upon arrival to schedule departure testing. The antigen test is only available to guests who book a minimum of three nights at any of the brand’s properties.

Puerto Vallarta resorts

The following hotels are providing free testing: Casa Velas ; Fiesta Americana Puerto Vallarta All Inclusive & Spa; Garza Blanca Resort & Spa; Grand Fiesta Americana Puerto Vallarta All Inclusive Adults Only; the Hacienda at Hilton; Hilton Puerto Vallarta Resort; Hotel Mousai; Hyatt Ziva Puerto Vallarta; Krystal Puerto Vallarta; Melia Puerto Vallarta; Now Amber Puerto Vallarta; Secrets Vallarta Bay Puerto Vallarta; Sunscape Puerto Vallarta Resort & Spa; Velas Vallarta.

Divi & Tamarijn Aruba All Inclusives

The Divi Aruba, Tamarijn Aruba and Divi Village Golf & Beach Resort, all located in Oranjestad, Aruba, are providing guests with access to on-site Covid-19 testing at the Divi Village resort. The facility offers a PCR test for $125 and an antigen test for $50, payable by the guest; results are available within 24 hours. An appointment is required in advance and can be booked through guest services in the lobbies of the Divi Aruba and Tamarijn Aruba.

Solmar Hotels & Resorts

Solmar Hotels & Resorts properties in Los Cabos, Mexico, are offering on-site testing for $23 per person (tax included). Guests who may test positive and need to quarantine will be granted 40% off the lowest nonrefundable rate. 

The Palms and The Shore Club

The Palms and The Shore Club in Turks and Caicos have launched on-site testing, with tests complimentary for all guests at both resorts. Guests at sister property The Sands are able to access testing at The Palms for $25. Additionally, non-guests can access testing services at the resorts for $50, by appointment only.

Como Parrot Cay

Turks & Caicos resort Como Parrot Cay is offering free, on-site antigen tests.

Conrad Punta de Mita

The Conrad Punta de Mita, located along Mexico’s Riviera Nayarit, has launched on-site PCR and antigen tests for a fee. A PCR test is $185 and an antigen test is $65.

Marquis Los Cabos

Mexico’s Marquis Los Cabos is offering an antigen test on-site at $50, with results expected within two hours.

UNICO 20°N 87°W

UNICO 20°N 87°W on Mexico’s Riviera Maya is offering free antigen testing and discounted PCR testing, in addition to complimentary on-site medical assistance insurance.

Hard Rock Hotels and Nobu Los Cabos

AIC Hotel Group’s Hard Rock Hotels and Nobu Los Cabos will be offering two complimentary on-site antigen tests per room for all existing and new reservations of three nights or more booked by Feb. 28, until the mandate is lifted. Additional on-site antigen tests may be purchased at a cost of $50.

If a Hard Rock Hotels or Nobu Los Cabos guest tests positive while at the hotel, medical assistance insurance will cover up to $150 per night for a maximum of 10 nights.

Bluefields Bay Villas

On Jamaica’s South Coast, Bluefields Bay Villas is offering guests antigen tests 24 to 48 hours before departure for a fee.

Grupo Xcaret

Guests at the Hotel Xcaret Mexico will have on-site access to complimentary antigen tests; PCR tests will also be available for an additional cost. Guests will also have access to antigen testing at Grupo Xcaret’s parks including, Xcaret, Xel-ha, Xplor, Xenses and Xoximilco, at a cost of $19 per guest.

Fairmont Mayakoba

The Fairmont Mayakoba, located on Mexico’s Riviera Maya, is offering a complimentary antigen test for all asymptomatic guests staying at the resort for three nights or longer. A PCR test is available for $150 USD.

If a guest needs to extend a stay as a result of a positive test, the hotel will offer a special rate of $199 per room, per night, including breakfast for two.

Grand Residences Riviera Cancun

The Grand Residences Riviera Cancun in Puerto Morelos, Mexico, is providing on-site access to complimentary antigen testing, as well as PCR testing for approximately $110 per test.

Palmaia — The House of Aia

Palmaia — The House of Aia in Playa del Carmen, Mexico, has rolled out complimentary on-site antigen testing, with same-day results, as well as PCR tests priced at $150 each. Should a guest test positive, the hotel will cover 14 complimentary nights for quarantine. 

Seven Stars Resort & Spa

The Seven Stars Resort & Spa on Grace Bay Beach in Turks and Caicos has rolled out complimentary, in-room antigen testing. PCR tests are also available for $185 each, with Seven Stars applying a $50 resort credit toward that cost.

Montage Los Cabos  

The Montage Los Cabos in Mexico has debuted complimentary, on-site antigen testing.

Four Seasons Resort Punta Mita and the St. Regis Resort Punta Mita
 
Guests at the Four Seasons Resort Punta Mita and the St. Regis Resort Punta Mita on Mexico’s Riviera Nayarit will have access to antigen and PCR tests at the on-site Hospital Punta Mita. The cost is $188 for the PCR test and $64 for the antigen test.

Velas Resorts 
 
Mexico’s Velas Resorts is offering complimentary, on-property antigen testing at all six of its properties in Los Cabos, Riviera Maya, Riviera Nayarit and Puerto Vallarta. 

If a traveler tests positive for Covid-19 and needs to extend his or her stay for up to 14 nights, Velas Resorts will offer a 75% discount on its listed web rates. An extra suite will also be offered to any person who receives a positive result, in order to allow them to quarantine away from family or other travel companions. 

Amanyara and Amanera
 
Amanyara in Turks and Caicos is offering PCR testing for guests, while Amanera in the Dominican Republic is offering both PCR and antigen tests for $275 and $220 each, respectively (excluding taxes). 

Belmond Cap Juluca

Anguilla’s Belmond Cap Juluca is providing on-property PCR tests, with the cost of the test covered as part of the destination’s entry fee, which varies depending on group size and length of stay. 

Nayara Resorts
 
Costa Rica’s Nayara Resorts has launched on-site testing at all three of its properties. Tests are administered in-room, with pricing at $275 per person.

Mandarin Oriental, Canouan

Guests traveling home to the U.S. from the Mandarin Oriental, Canouan in St. Vincent and the Grenadines will be administered the required test in their accommodations before their scheduled departure date at a cost of $300 per person, which also includes the cost of the test required upon arrival at the resort.

Serenade Punta Cana Beach & Spa Resort

The Serenade Punta Cana Beach & Spa Resort offers Covid-19 antigen for $50 per person starting on Feb. 1. New reservations that are a minimum of four nights will have the test included in the stay when travel advisors book clients’ stay via the resort’s website www.serenadepuntacana.com.

The tests will be administered in a private area at the resort with results in 20-30 minutes. Each guest will receive a certificate of their results in English and Spanish, which must be presented to the air carrier upon departure.

Palace Resorts and Le Blanc Spa Resorts

Palace Resorts and Le Blanc Spa Resorts have launched free on-property antigen testing for up to two guests per room at their properties throughout Mexico and Jamaica. Additional tests will be available for $19 each.

If a guest tests positive, Palace Resorts and Le Blanc Spa Resorts will cover the cost of quarantine for up to 14 days for up to two guests per room should both guests test positive.

Palladium Hotel Group

Palladium Hotel Group has launched on-site Covid-19 tests at its properties in Mexico, the Dominican Republic and Jamaica, including at its Grand Palladium Hotels & Resorts and TRS Hotels brands.

Antigen tests are free for all guests traveling back to the U.S. through April 4. PCR tests are available for all guests traveling back to Canada for a fee of $177 Canadian dollars to $443 Canadian dollars.

Ocean Club Resorts, Turks & Caicos

Ocean Club East and Ocean Club West have partnered with local diagnostic laboratories to provide on-site Covid testing at the Ocean Club East location. Complimentary transportation will be provided for guests from the West location to the test site. Results will be available within 48 hours and the fee is $185 per person.

Hermitage Bay, Antigua

The Hermitage Bay resort will arrange for a medical professional to come to the resort to administer the PCR test three days prior to departure (turnaround is 24-48 hours). The fee for this service is $250 per person.

Casa de Campo Resort & Villas
 
Casa de Campo Resort & Villas in the Dominican Republic is providing PCR testing at a private concierge lounge at the property. Tests are available for $150 each or are fully covered under the government-provided insurance if a guest presents Covid-19 symptoms.

Iberostar Hotels & Resorts

Iberostar properties in Mexico, the Dominican Republic, Jamaica and Brazil are offering free, on-site antigen tests. Guests can also purchase a PCR test at all Iberostar properties. 

Eden Roc Cap Cana

The Eden Roc Cap Cana in the Dominican Republic is offering complimentary antigen and PCR tests for overnight guests, with testing done privately in guestrooms.

The Ocean Club, a Four Seasons Resort

The Ocean Club, a Four Seasons Resort in the Bahamas has been offering on-site Covid-19 testing since fall 2020. Antigen tests are available for $25 and PCR tests are available for $120, with expedited PCR testing offered from $400.

Waldorf Astoria Los Cabos Pedregal

The Waldorf Astoria Los Cabos Pedregal in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, is providing on-site antigen for $30 per test and PCR testing for $220 per test.

Hilton Los Cabos Beach & Golf Resort

Mexico’s Hilton Los Cabos Beach & Golf Resort is offering on-site antigen and PCR testing, with antigen tests priced at $30 each and PCR tests at $220 each.

Curtain Bluff

Antigua’s Curtain Bluff is providing in-room antigen and PCR testing. Both types of tests are being offered for $250 per person.

Sensira Resort & Spa

The newly opened all-inclusive Sensira Resort & Spa on Mexico’s Riviera Maya has debuted on-site PCR testing, with prices starting at $150 each.

Couples Resorts

Couples Resorts is offering free, on-site rapid antigen testing to guests at its Couples Tower Isle, Couples Sans Souci, Couples Swept Away and Couples Negril properties in Jamaica. All tests will be administered within three days of a guest’s departure date, with antigen test results promised within approximately 48 hours. CORRECTION: A previous version of this report gave an incorrect turnaround time for the antigen test; it is 48 hours.

Renaissance Aruba and Grand Hyatt Baha Mar

Other properties throughout the Caribbean that have recently unveiled on-site testing programs include the Renaissance Aruba Resort & Casino, which has launched a new offer providing free antigen tests for up to two guests for stays of four nights or longer, and the Grand Hyatt Baha Mar in Nassau, which is providing on-site Covid-19 testing upon arrival and departure.

Casa Chameleon Hotels

In Costa Rica, Casa Chameleon Hotels has made complimentary, on-site testing available to all guests staying five nights or longer at its Casa Chameleon at Mal Pais and Casa Chameleon at Las Catalinas properties.

Atlantis Paradise Island

The Bahamas’ Atlantis Paradise Island will offer complimentary Covid-19 rapid antigen testing by clinical technicians and registered nurses at the resort’s Beach and Royal Towers for guests of all ages. Rapid antigen test results are available within 30 minutes, and documentation will be ready for guests to present at the airport for their journey home. Guests can schedule their departure test at check-in with Atlantis’ on-site testing coordination or online. For countries that require a Covid-19-RT-PCR test for reentry, testing is available on-site at Atlantis and costs $165. Additional rapid antigen tests are available for $20.

Caerula Mar Club

The Caerula Mar Club, located in South Andros, Bahamas, has made rapid antigen tests complimentary for guests, with results available in 15 minutes. 

St. Lucia hotels and villas

Hotels and villas in St. Lucia offering complimentary Covid-19 antigen (rapid) testing include Anse Chastanet; all five Bay Gardens properties; Calabash Cove Resort & Spa; Caille Blanc Villa & Hotel; Cap Maison Resort & Spa; Coconut Bay Beach Resort & Spa; Jade Mountain; Ladera Resort; Marigot Bay Resort and Marina;, Sandals Resorts; Serenity at Coconut Bay; Sugar Beach, a Viceroy Resort; Stonefield Villa Resort and Ti Kay Resort & Spa.

Villa Premiere

In Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, luxury boutique property Villa Premiere began providing Covid-19 testing services on Jan. 5, with guests able to purchase a PCR test on-site for $152.

Sonesta St. Maarten

The Sonesta Resorts St. Maarten offer on-property rapid antigen testing for guests. The Sonesta Ocean Point Resort and Sonesta Maho Beach Resort offer a $120 per person resort credit to to help offset the cost of Covid-19 testing. Tests cost $55 per person.

Planet Hollywood Beach Resorts

The Planet Hollywood Beach Resort Costa Rica has launched on-site PCR testing, available for a fee of $150. Results are returned within 36 to 48 hours. The Planet Hollywood Beach Resort Cancun, which is set to debut on Jan. 29, will be offering free antigen tests with same-day results. Info about Planet Hollywood’s plans are here.

Marival Resorts

Mexico’s Marival Resorts is offering free, on-site Covid-19 testing for U.S. guests staying three nights or longer at its Riviera Nayarit, Punta Mita or Nuevo Vallarta properties. Test results are promised within 24 hours. In the event a guest tests positive, Marival Resorts will provide complimentary accommodations for up to 14 days for up to two guests per room. If any additional friends or family members opt to remain at the resort throughout a guest’s quarantine period, they will be granted a “special distress rate.”

Royalton Luxury Resorts

The Royalton Luxury Resorts, Hideaway at Royalton Resorts and Mystique by Royalton Resorts brands are offering complimentary, on-site Covid-19 antigen testing at select properties throughout Mexico and the Caribbean. 

All guests staying at the Royalton Riviera Cancun, Hideaway at Royalton Riviera Cancun, Royalton CHIC Suites Cancun and Mystique Holbox by Royalton in Mexico; Royalton Bavaro, Royalton Punta Cana, Hideaway at Royalton Punta Cana and Royalton Splash in the Dominican Republic; and Royalton Negril, Hideaway at Royalton Negril, Royalton Blue Waters and Royalton White Sands in Jamaica will have access the free on-site tests, with same-day results, through March 31, or until regulations change.

Guests at the Mystique Saint Lucia by Royalton and Royalton Antigua will have access to the antigen tests for an extra fee of $150 to $200, with results delivered up to 72 hours later.

Beach Enclave Turks & Caicos

All three Beach Enclave Turks & Caicos locations on Providenciales, including the Beach Enclave North Shore, Beach Enclave Long Bay and Beach Enclave Grace Bay, are offering complimentary, on-site Covid-19 testing, with guests able to take the tests in the privacy of their own villas.
